Top 3 business WordPress theme reviews
Measuring the page load speed, ease of use, attractiveness of design, mobile responsiveness, and extensiveness of functionality, we have ranked the top 20 best WordPress themes for business. Below are the themes that made the top 3.
Ultra WordPress Theme (9/10)
Ultra theme at a glance:
- Industry specific designs
- Great page load time
- Makes the most of screen real-estate size
Ultra comes in at the top of our list and it fully deserves this position! It scores unusually high in the page load speed category for a theme that has a lot going on. After spending some time with the theme, we could tell that it’s very well polished – The creators of the theme even created widgets and design elements that few consider.
Ultra page load speed (8/10)
Ultra has an excellent page load speed, despite providing a huge number of features, and being relatively media-heavy. It is not often that a theme scores an 8, and even rarer for one of this caliber. It scores a respectable 62 for mobile and 71 for desktop on the Google Page Speed test. It could score even higher if the developers combine the external CSS and JavaScript, but it’s already great as is.
Ultra ease of use (10/10)
The most outstanding feature in this category is Ultra’s mega menu – It supports images, has a nice animation, and spacing is well thought out to ensure users don’t ‘mis-click’. Most layouts and designs are also structured logically, even when non-standard designs are used. Big “next” or “previous” post links on the blog section is also a nice addition. The gallery is also well equipped. Ultra manages to make your screen feel much bigger than it really is, which is a testament to its ease of use.
Ultra design (9/10)
From restaurants to gyms, and video games to law firms, Ultra’s pre-made designs look amazing for any industry. We mentioned previously how Ultra makes your screen real estate feel big. This is because of its good use of padding and white space. The theme also makes use of tidbits of brightly colored elements to keep the user’s visual interest. The fonts used are also big, sans-serif and extremely soft on the eyes.
Ultra mobile responsiveness (8/10)
Typically, themes struggle to cater to a lot of options on a small screen but the Ultra theme manages to pull it off. The main menu is easy to use with big buttons with more than two levels of navigation. You can add some widgets to the menu if you desire, just like the desktop version. The only negative feedback however, is that the creators missed the ‘read more’ links underneath the article listings.
Ultra functionality (9/10)
The great thing about Ultra is that it won’t leave you wanting more – There are other themes highlighted on this list that provide a wider range of features and layout options, however, there aren’t many. Ultra’s shop functionality is brilliant and products can be displayed in the navigation menu. Ultra also provides a good range of layouts and content to cater to businesses in almost any industry. If you purchase the Ultra theme, you’d get a bunch of useful add-on’s such as progress bars, timelines, and countdowns. Widgets can also be added straight to the main menu.
TheGem WordPress Theme (9/10)
TheGem theme at a glance:
- Lightning fast page load speed
- Huge amount of valuable features
- Great use of bold fonts
With the same total score as Ultra, TheGem can hold its head high. This theme has a myriad of features, and makes great use of animation and graphical elements. Combine this with it’s impressive page load speed and we can see how it comfortably cemented its place in the top 3.
TheGem page load (8/10)
TheGem’s page load speed is even more impressive than Ultra’s – Considering that it has a lot more content, it scores perfect A’s all round which is super impressive! With a lightning Google Page Speed score of 79 for mobile and 92 for desktop, it’s the fastest in the top 3, and comes second to Nimble which is a much lighter theme.
TheGem ease of use (9/10)
TheGem ships with a mega menu that has ample spacing between links and can also handle images. There are also preloaders wherever you need them and everything of importance has a hover state/animation. The rest of the navigation however is pretty standard and all elements are where you would expect to find them which makes it easy for the everyday user to navigate.
TheGem design (9/10)
First of all, the use of animations in this theme is spectacular. They all just feel perfectly timed and well thought out. TheGem also manages to blend bright colors well ensuring that it doesn’t clash nor steal away focus. Although the fonts used for article text could be slightly bigger, the rest are big, bold, modern and incredibly easy to read. Finally, TheGem comes with some awesome industry and business specific designs that makes getting started easy.
TheGem mobile responsiveness (8/10)
With no surprise, TheGem passes Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test with flying colors. It also finds a neat way around the problems that come with a multi-tiered menu on mobile display by flipping the menu over every time you go into a sub-category. The only real issue with mobile is that it can be a bit laggy and at some places, the padding is overdone.
TheGem functionality (10/10)
In a list that has many themes that are packed with features, TheGem is one of only two that scores a perfect 10 for functionality. It also has its own custom sliders (Revolution and Layer) – Each of which comes with some cool 2D and 3D animation effects to choose from. In addition to the great selection of pre-designed layouts, it comes with a number of widgets and elements specific to its niche.
Jupiter WordPress Theme (9/10)
Jupiter theme at a glance:
- Countless features
- Fantastic design
- Mobile needs improvement
This is one amazing theme. The Jupiter theme feels polished and is packed full of features. It has a huge number of layouts, designs, page types and widgets to choose from. The galleries do everything you could want them to do, and the theme doesn’t skip a beat when it comes to design. The theme is also a good example of the use of classy and readable serif fonts. Jupiter is a multi-purpose theme and will easily fit any business or industry. If we had to be picky, the mobile experience and page load speed could be slightly improved, but other than that this theme is top notch.
Jupiter page load (7/10)
Jupiter’s score of 7 is not bad at all considering the huge amount of content that ships with this theme. From our analysis, some of the more common ways performance can be improved is by combining the external CSS and Javascript. Other than that, they have done a good job and the performance is especially good on Desktop with a score of 81, while mobile lags behind on a score of 61.
Jupiter ease of use (9/10)
Probably one of the most impressive characteristics about Jupiter is its ease of use despite the enormous amount of elements on display that this theme has. You would think it’s forgivable then for the developers to forget about all the small stuff, however, every image and button has an animated hover state and images have some useful links on top like ‘zoom’ or ‘go to’. The theme also sports a flexible mega menu and the rest of the navigation is pretty standard and easy to follow.
Jupiter design (9/10)
We already touched on the fact that almost all elements have hover states, however, the important thing is that these animations are done tastefully, subtly and without disturbing the user. The fonts are also easy to read and different size, weight, and type of fonts are used appropriately. For once, if anything, the text could actually be a little smaller for articles. There are countless effects like fading and zoom out to choose from, and as far as we could tell, all are well executed. The color scheme of dark gray, white and beige works well.
Jupiter mobile responsiveness (8/10)
Jupiter manages to adapt most of its features, widgets, and elements to smaller displays, and succeeds in providing a seamless user experience across all devices. This extends to its eCommerce offering, which is well designed and functional on mobile.
Jupiter functionality (10/10)
The sheer number of widgets, layouts and design options available in Jupiter is simply staggering. It comes with its own custom slideshow, called Edge that features all kinds of animations and pagination effects. There are also flip boxes, countdown, and milestones, moving images and tab sliders. You also have several options for the homepage image animation such as fade in/out, horizontal curtain and zoom in/out.
